Wigley takes Purple Sage Open Title

"Our players are learning what it takes to get tournament tough," said David Smith, of the St. George Tennis Academy. "We are on the cutting edge of what is fast becoming the future of competitive tennis."

The Purple Sage Open had 26 players of various ages and abilities. Kayenta's Richard Wigley won the event over Dixie's #2 player Jeremy Atkin 3-2, 3-1 at 51 proving age doesn’t matter. "Ricky Rahde Rocks", said one a player after nine year old Ricky beat Amy Thompson 3-1, 3-1 showing his future star potential. On the other end of the spectrum Perry Christensen who turned 80 last month played extremely well to beat 13 year old Sam Christensen 3-1, 3-1 and 12 year old Allie Bergen took a set off of Dale Thompson from SLC showing her future star potential as well in fast format tennis.

The "A" Consolation was won 3-1, 3-2 by Steve Holbrook of SLC over Sam Christensen and defeated Hurricane's #2 player Sam Moyle semifinals. Art Frakt defeated Bob Burton 1-3, 3-2, 3-2 in the "B" Consolations.

The tournaments are leading up to the Tonaquint Grand Slam on May 23 & 24th. The tournament will be Fast Format Best 3 of 5 sets game sets with male / female, Junior, Open, A, B & C Divisions & consolations. SGTA will provide Trophies, T-Shirts, Prizes, Food & more.
