TENNIS TOURNAMENT

SOUTHERN UTAH OPEN
ST. GEORGE
- Thirty two tennis players battled for the Southern Utah Open Crown but only Kayenta’s Richard Wigley achieved the goal with a 3-2, 3-0 victory over Ron Harrison of Los Alamos New Mexico. Rising stars continue to show improvement as in the biggest upset of the day with Isaac Nelson taking out the #3 seed, former professional player, Victor Strange in a 3-2, 3-2 match before losing his quarterfinal 1-3, 3-2, 3-0 to Harrison.

"In the two years since these tournaments started I have seen the level of play get better and better," Wigley said. "Currently, Isaac Nelson, Mike Schijf, Sam Moyle, Matt Glendenning, Clark Wilkey and Ricky Rahde are showing the desire and commitment a player must have."

Brett Perkins won the consolations over Jim Boone 3-1, 3-2. Brett has found his new home in St. George, like so many others is becoming a “Tennis Town” and picked up his racquet after a long layoff to come out and win the consolations after losing his first round to Steve Adams Sr.
