December
Doubles Invitational
December 7th
Burdick & Manuele victorious
Kenny
Burdick and Marc Manuele hardly missed a shot in defeating the #2 seeds Dennis
Fowler & Victor Strange in the finals of the December Doubles Invitational
3-2, 2-3, 3-1. In their semifinal Kenny & Marc soundly defeated the #1 seeds
Chris Burkley & Richard Wigley 3-0, 2-3, 3-0 while in the other semifinal
Dennis & Victor moved past the Dixie High pair of Jeremy Atkin & L.J.
Aldred 3-1, 3-2.
In
the consolations, A.J. Bartlett and Isaac Nelson won a spirited match over Stephanie
Caplin & Paul Osinski 3-0, 0-3, 3-0. "There was great competition, especially
in the younger kids like Isaac." Said SGTA associate instructor, Stephanie
Caplin. "Their hard work and desire to win is what keeps them coming out
to the tournaments and creating such great competition." Isaac Nelson is
a case in point who in 7 months of play this 13 year old is showing the desire
and hard work necessary to be a star. Playing with top ranked junior A.J. Bartlett
certainly helped motivate him as they dazzled the fans and pushed the top seeds
to three sets 2-3, 3-1, 3-1 in their only loss. Gordon & Barbara Nelson won
the other consolation in a 3-0, 3-0 win over Marlene Curtis and Irma Lookerman.
The event had 34 players and quite a few spectators.
